PUNE: Harmanpreet Kaur may have become an overnight star post her showings in Women's World Cup, but the way the Moga girl has prepared herself, the fame was overdue, feels her close friend and colleague Kavita Patil.
Kavita has played domestic cricket with Harmanpreet or Harry as she is fondly called, since past four years, and works with the India star at Western Railways.
When Harmanpreet's performance at the World Cup made people aware of her name, Kavita was all but surprised as she knows what her friend is capable of.

"Her success isn't sudden. She has worked hard to get it. Before leaving for England in July, she came to Pune and we practiced together for almost 10 days. While she was here, other than focusing on her own game, she keenly followed men's Champions Trophy as the games were played on the same wickets where the women's matches were scheduled. She took notes of the condition there and worked on her game accordingly," Kavita told TOI.
Though a lot has been written about India's first Big Bash player, the Solapur girl feels Harmanpreet's dedication can't be described in words.
"She had never lived in Mumbai till she came here to join Western Railway in 2013. Honestly, she was not used to the lifestyle of the city and had difficulties in adapting to its weather. Though she used to complain about it, she never let her training or work affect. She used to get up at 4.30 am for training and then to reach office at 9.30 am. From home to office to the ground, there was a lot of travelling along with tasks like managing food. But she used to manage everything in time," Kavita said.
"Before coming to Mumbai, she was not used to doing so many things on her own. At home, she used to train and relax, but her life changed after she moved."
Kavita said Harmanpreet is a gadget freak. "She loves gadgets and whenever we have off time, we play video games," Kavita said.
