NEW DELHI: South Africa women cricketers
Dane van Niekerk and
Marizanne Kapp became the first married couple to bat together in an ICC tournament when South Africa faced Sri Lanka in their ICC Women’s Twenty20 match at the
Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium
in St. Lucia.
They are only the second pair of current international players to get married. New Zealand's Amy Satterthwaite and Lea Tahuhu were the first.
Van Niekerk, the South African women's cricket team captain, married her teammate Kapp in July earlier this year.
Featuring in the same eleven against Sri Lanka, skipper Van Niekerk scored an unbeaten 33 off 45 balls, while Kapp chipped in with 16 off 16 balls to guide South Africa to a seven-wicket win.
Kapp had also shared the wedding photos on her Instagram profile.
Van Niekerk has 71 T20 Internationals for South Africa and scored 1539 runs at an average of 29.03, including nine half-centuries.
On the other hand, Kapp has 726 runs under her belt in 68 T20Is at an average of 18.15.
