Emotional Ishan Kishan dedicates T20 World Cup triumph to late cousin
AHMEDABAD: For Ishan Kishan, India’s World Cup victory New Zealand was about far more than celebrations. The explosive lefthander, who smashed 54 off 25 balls in the final, revealed that he had lost his cousin in a car accident a day before the final.
“I was not planning to say this, but I lost my cousin yesterday (Saturday) in a car accident. I got to know during the practice session,” Kishan said, “She always wanted me to score big runs. Today was a big day and I thought the best thing I could do was score runs for her. That’s why I looked up after reaching my fifty — it was for my sister.”
“I wasn’t feeling well mentally, but Hardik-bhai. He told me it wouldn’t be easy but said that we have to lift each other for the team’s cause,” Kishan said, “I had that anger to perform.
Kishan said he had changed his mindset over the past year by focusing only on things within his control. “I’ve stopped overthinking,” he admitted.
