Shivalkar, a legend on the domestic circuit, was unfortunate not to have played for India in the 1960s and 1970s, when India's famed spin quartet ruled the roost and Bishan Singh Bedi was the leading left-arm spinner in the country.

"In honour of the late Shri Padmakar Shivalkar, Team Indi a is wearing black arm bands today," the BCCI said in a statement.

Shivalkar's immense contributions to Indian cricket were formally recognized when he was honoured by the BCCI with the prestigious Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017. His funeral is on Wednesday.
