India vs England Highlights: England crush India by 227 runs in 1st Test to take 1-0 lead

Jack Leach and James Anderson starred for England as a combined bowling effort from the visitors cleaned up the India batting order on Day 5 to register a famous win in Chennai. With the emphatic 227-run victory, England took a 1-0 lead in the 4-Test series. Resuming on the overnight score of 39/1, India batted horribly in the morning session, losing out five wickets in quick succession. Jack Leach got the ball rolling with the wicket of Cheteshwar Pujara. Anderson then, quickly picked up three wickets to break India's middle order. Skipper Virat Kohli (72) showed some resistance but went out of partners from the other end. India eventually bundled out for 192 in reply to England's 420-run target. For England, Leach picked up 4 wickets while Anderson grabbed three in the fourth innings. Jofra Archer, Dom Bess and Ben Stokes also picked up a wicket apiece.

And, that's it from the first Test in Chennai. Jofra Archer takes the final wicket in form of Jasprit Bumrah as England beat India by a mammoth 227-run margin. The visitors take a 1-0 lead in this 4-Test series. A disappointing batting effort from India on the final day. But credit needs to be given to the England bowlers, who bowled with absolute discipline. A heart-breaking loss for Virat Kohli and Co.

England totally dominated the morning session on Day 5, picking up 5 crucial wickets. Sensational James Anderson picked up three wickets as India were left reeling at 144/6 at lunch in chase of a mammoth 420 on Day 5 in Chennai. Resuming on 39/1, India lost five wickets in the session to give England a sniff of victory in the first Test. Cheteshwar Pujara (15) was the first one to fall early in the day as Jack Leach produced a terrific delivery to get rid of India's No.3. Anderson then came in and wreaked havoc, dismissing Shubman Gill (50) and Ajinkya Rahane (0) in the same over. Rishabh Pant then fell on 11 to Anderson while Sundar (0) edged a Dom Bess delivery as India collapsed against a disciplined England bowling. Jofra Archer then produced a barrage of bouncers at the end of the session to rattle Ashwin. Skipper Virat Kohli (45*) and Ashwin (2*) were at the crease when umpires called lunch.

A lethal over from Jorfa Archer to end the final over before Lunch on Day 5. Hit Ashwin thrice in the over but he survives the blows to the hand and head. Ashwin will surely be using the breather to gather himself as umpires call for break. India still tottering in this massive chase of 420.
