India vs England 1st ODI Highlights: Krishna takes four on debut, India beat England by 66 runs to go 1-0 up

A combined bowling effort followed a terrific batting display as India defeated England by 66 runs in the first ODI in Pune to take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series. Defending 317 on a batting paradise, India bowlers got off to a horrible start as England openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow took them to the cleaners. Smoking the bowlers all around the park, England openers raced to 135 in the 15th over before debutant Prasidh Krishna got rid of Roy for 46. Ben Stokes came in at No.3 but flopped, falling for an 11-ball 1. Bairstow and skipper Eoin Morgan then tried to steady the England chase but three wickets in two overs from Shardul Thakur completely turned around the game for India. Thakur first removed Bairstow for 94 and then got rid of Morgan and Jos Buttler in the same over to put India back on top. From there on, England never recovered and lost wickets at regular intervals. Although the required run rate was never a problem for the visitors but regular wickets hurt them in the mammoth chase. England's innings eventually ended in the 43rd over on 251. For India, Krishna (4 for 54) clinched the best figures ever by an Indian on debut. Thakur ended up with three wickets while Bhuvneshwar Kumar got a couple of wickets as well.
