Thirty-six years ago. a historic game was held at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. Historic in more ways than one. It was the first-ever One Day International (ODI) at the hallowed venue in Chepauk and also the inaugural game of the Indian leg of the 1987 World Cup. The first time the mega event was being held outside England.
The contestants were India and Australia, who were to play in their opening match of the World Cup, on October 8.
