NEW DELHI: India clinched a 2-0 series victory over Bangladesh in the second test match in Kanpur on Tuesday. The match, affected by rain, saw India securing a win by seven wickets.
In the extended morning session, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah played a key role. Jadeja, a spinner, and Bumrah, a seamer, caused significant damage. Their efforts led to Bangladesh being bowled out for 146 runs.
India needed 95 runs to win on the final day. They achieved this target with more than a session left, losing three wickets along the way.
Indian team captain Rohit Sharma said, "In life, we all keep moving on and at some stage, you work with different personnel. When Rahul bhai said he was done, it was a fantastic time we had together. Then life moves on and as a team we had to move on. With Gautam Gambhir...I've played with him and what sort of mindset he has. Early days still but very fruitful."
"To be honest we had to think a lot to keep the game moving forward" Rohit added.
When we came on day four, we wanted to get them out as early as possible and see what we can do with the bat. It was not about the runs we get but the overs we wanted to bowl at them." Rohit continued.
Rohit shared his thoughts on the pitch and India's explosive batting, "The pitch didn't have much for bowlers but to get a game out of that pitch was a great effort from the bowlers. The batters were willing to take the risk and we were ready to give ourselves a chance at a result."
Rohit Sharma shared his thoughts on Akash Deep," Look, Akash has been good and he's played a lot domestic cricket. There's enough overs in the legs and the guy can do the job the team is expecting him to do. He can bowl long spells and we want to create a bunch of bowlers who are ready to play Test cricket at any given point. If someone is injured, you should be able to replace them."
India secured their 18th consecutive test series victory on home soil, setting a new record. In the chase, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a swift 51 before being dismissed, while Virat Kohli remained not out with 29 runs.
Bangladesh began the day at 26-2 but struggled after losing more than two days to bad weather. Ravichandran Ashwin was key to India's bowling, taking 3-50, including getting Mominul Haque out for only two runs.
Bangladesh's Shadman Islam and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto attempted a comeback with a 55-run partnership. Shadman scored 50 runs, while Shanto made 19. However, the partnership was short-lived due to poor shot choices and strategic bowling from the Indian team.
Ravindra Jadeja, who took three wickets for 34 runs, bowled out Shanto. Shadman reached his half-century but edged a delivery from Akash Deep to Yashasvi Jaiswal at slip.
Ravindra Jadeja impacted Bangladesh's batting by taking key wickets. He dismissed Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan in successive overs, making it tough for Bangladesh. Jasprit Bumrah also contributed by removing Mehidy Hasan Miraz, increasing Bangladesh's challenges.
Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored 37, managed to stay on the field for a while. However, Bumrah eventually dismissed him with the last delivery of the session.
This victory completed India's clean sweep of the series.
