India strengthened their position in the first Test against Bangladesh on the second day in Nagpur, leading the match with a commanding performance.
India, having resumed their innings from an overnight score of 339 for six, were bowled out for 376. Key contributions came from
Ravichandran Ashwin, who scored 113 runs, and
Ravindra Jadeja, with 86 runs. Their partnership added 199 runs to India's total.
Bangladesh's response was shaky, as Akash Deep's bowling reduced them to 26 for three by lunch. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim were at the crease when lunch was taken.
Jasprit Bumrah provided the initial breakthrough by dismissing Shadman Islam for two runs. Akash Deep then took the wickets of Zakir Hasan and Mominul Haque in consecutive balls.
Earlier in the day, India's innings wrapped up after adding 37 more runs to their overnight score. Jadeja was dismissed by Taskin Ahmed, and Ashwin soon followed, giving Ahmed a three-wicket haul. Hasan Mahmud also took his fifth wicket by dismissing Bumrah, marking his second consecutive five-wicket haul.
Akash Deep's early strikes left Bangladesh trailing by 350 runs at lunch.
