AHMEDABAD: The mood was festive, Ravi Shastri's booming baritone had excitement and aura in equal measure, as a crowd of about 40,000 got a taste of cricket diplomacy with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese enjoying a good part of an intense opening session in the final Test.

India want to ensure a 3-1 series win and a place in the World Test Championship final, even as the Australians look to dent the home team's pride by restoring parity. But that is on the pitch.

Off it, Albanese and Modi did a lap of honour across the ground to mark the occasion of 75 years of friendship between India and Australia.

The only dampener was the tight multi-layered security arrangement because of the presence of the two heads of states. That's why the gigantic stadium was not even half full when Modi and Albanese took a round of the ground in a cricket-themed cart. However, they still got the warmest of ovation from those present at the venue.

PM Narendra Modi and Anthony Albanese watch 4th Test in Ahmedabad

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese were in attendance for the 4th Test between the two countries.

Before the toss, India captain Rohit Sharma received his Test cap from PM Narendra Modi.

Steve Smith received his Test cap from Australian PM Anthony Albanese.

BCCI president Roger Binny felicitated Albanese and BCCI secretary Jay Shah felicitated PM Modi before the match.

Modi and Albanese also did a lap of honour across the ground to mark the occasion of 75 years of friendship between India and Australia.

Steve Smith won the toss and opted to bat against India in the fourth Test.

Modi and Albanese then went through a few pictures of memorable moments between India and Australia.

Ravi Shastri explained Modi and Albanese the pictures of some significant events played between India and Australia.

Modi and Albanese then walked on to the field with the two captains who introduced them to the players.

BCCI president Roger Binny presented Albanese with his portrait while secretary Jay Shah gave one to the Indian PM.

The two leaders then inaugurated the newly designed Hall of Fame room where cricket and nostalgia are intrinsically seeped into each other.

There couldn't have been a better person than former head coach Shastri to lend his service during their brief but engaging date with cricket history.

The two captains -- Rohit Sharma and Steve Smith -- also had their moment under the sun. They walked into the field with their respective prime ministers and introduced them to the other players.

Albanese gave a few seconds more to Australia's best performer on tour -- Nathan Lyon -- as Modi greeted all the Indian players with a firm handshake.

Singing the national anthem standing alongside the Indian PM is a tale that Rohit would love to tell his grandchildren someday.

India entered the series-deciding fourth Test leading 2-1.

I watched in amazement Leader Ji in Motera stealing the show from the two Teams who are his reasons for his presence at the Stadium. He went around the ground in a buggy (which had three Stumps and a Bat sprouting out of each side of the buggy like Sun’s Rays) waving to the crowd , very much Alexander on his Chariot returning from a Battle. Appropriately, Leader’s buggy ride was termed as Victory Lap. Thereafter when the two teams were presented to the two Teams , Leader Ji got “introduced” to Indian Teams and ignoring the Australian Team he stood waiting for the Anthem. Since Leader Ji set the example, the Australian PM did the same. The most emphatic assertion of Leader Ji’s elevated status came as came when the Anthems were sung. Steve Smith stood close to his PM and draped his right hand on his PM’s shoulders. Rohit Sharma knew his place when in presence of Royalty. He stood well away from Leader Ji so that Steve Smith might not gesture to him to do with Leader Ji what he was doing with his PM.
For these and other reasons, yesterday my friend Nirvana Nature wrote a Comment to suggest that Ahmedabad should become the new Capital of India. Today Leader Ji himself has a strong reason to accept Nirvana Nature’s suggestion and shift his Capital. His reason for the change has its origin in the speech he gave to Indian Diaspora in Bali when he went there to attend the G20 meeting. The Leader Ji said “At a time when the grand Ram Temple is taking shape in India, we also proudly remember the Ramayana tradition of Indonesia … If India has the Himalayas, Indonesia has Mount Agung; if India has Ganga, Indonesia has Tirta Gangga - we are united through cultures & tradition.. As I speak to you in Bali and we sing songs of Indonesian traditions, 1500 km away in India's Cuttack, Baliyatra Mahotsav is going on. This Mahotsav celebrates thousands of years old India-Indonesia trade relations“
By shifting the Capital to Ahmedabad ASAP, on his next trip to Bali Leader Ji to address Indian Diaspora there Leader Ji can add one more “like you, we” comparison witn Indonesia and say “Like you shifted your Capital City, we have shifted our Capital City.
Today’s News is that Indonesia has decided to shift its Capital from Jakarta to Borneo. The reason is that Jakarta is congested, prone to Earthquakes and Jakarta is slowly sinking in Jakarta Sea.
Well done friend Nirvana Nature for the suggestion. His reason is more compelling - Delhi is very congested with Politicians.
