'Showing Pakistan its place': Amit Mishra slams theatrics, hails India's fiery win
NEW DELHI: Former India spinner Amit Mishra took to social media to applaud India’s commanding performance against arch-rivals Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, following a six-wicket victory at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

It was a fiery contest from the onset. Chasing 172, India’s openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill tore through Pakistan’s pace attack, adding a blistering 105-run stand in just nine overs. Sharma struck a scintillating 74 off 39 balls, including six boundaries and five sixes, while Gill contributed 47 off 28, putting India on course to reach 174/4 in 18.5 overs. The duo’s aggressive start helped India reach 100 in just 8.4 overs, silencing Pakistan’s highly-touted attack.
Mishra’s social media post captured the essence of India’s dominance.
“Crushing win for the Indian team, showing Pakistan its place. It’s not about individual celebrations or nasty comments like certain Pakistan players did, it’s about what the team does. Pakistan was about theatrics while India was at their professional best. Well done!!!” he wrote on X, sharing pictures from the match.
The match was as intense off the field as it was on it. Abhishek went after Shaheen Afridi with a top-edged six and words of provocation. Gill locked eyes with Afridi after a crisp boundary over extra cover, and later Abhishek and Haris Rauf clashed mid-pitch, forcing the umpire to intervene. For the second time in the tournament, Indian players walked off without shaking hands with their Pakistani counterparts, highlighting the simmering tension between the sides.
The half-century celebration from Sahibzada Farhan too was equally provocative and controversial, as he held up his bat like a gun and fired a few shots at the crowd. He later justified it as something that was done in the moment, and that he didn't care what people thought about it. Haris Rauf's "6-0" gesture was also heavily criticized, as he held up his arms to resemble a fighter jet. He was alluding to the false claim of Indian fighter jets downed by Pakistan during Operation Sindoor.
This victory marked India’s second consecutive triumph over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025, underlining their professional discipline and composure in high-pressure encounters, while Mishra’s post reinforced the narrative of India’s superiority and collective focus over theatrics.
