India squad for Asia Cup: Shubman Gill steps in as vice-captain, no Shreyas Iyer - Complete 15-member squad
BCCI have named their 15-member squad for the Asia Cup on Tuesday (August 19) with Suryakumar Yadav the captain with Shubman Gill his deputy. Surprisingly, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer have not found a place in the squad while Jasprit Bumrah, whose workload had been under discussion during the tour of England, has found a spot.
There are five standbys beyond the 15-members with Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Explaining their selections, chief selector Ajit Agarkar said, "It's very unfortunate for Yashasvi Jaiswal, with Abhishek doing well, he can bowl as well - one of the two was going to miss out - same with Shreyas, not his fault."

On Gill's elevation to vice-captain, Agarkar said, "He has exceeded all our expectations."
The Asia Cup cricket tournament will take place in Dubai and Abu Dhabi from September 9-28, featuring eight teams competing in T20I format. The Asian Cricket Council has confirmed all match venues, with Dubai hosting 11 games and Abu Dhabi staging eight, including the tournament opener between Afghanistan and Hong Kong.
The tournament will see five full ACC members - Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka - along with UAE, Oman, and Hong Kong split into two groups. Group A comprises India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman, while Group B includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong.
Despite India being the official host, matches will be played at neutral venues following an agreement between the BCCI and PCB. This arrangement will continue for three years for tournaments hosted in either India or Pakistan.
Team India begin their campaign against UAE on September 10 in Dubai, followed by a highly anticipated clash with Pakistan on September 14, also in Dubai. Their final group stage match will be against Oman on September 19 in Abu Dhabi.
The tournament structure then moves to the Super 4 stage, running from September 20-26. The top two teams from each group will advance to this phase. If India tops Group A, all their Super 4 matches will be played in Dubai. However, if they finish second, they'll play one match in Abu Dhabi and two in Dubai.
The tournament will conclude with the final match in Dubai on September 28, where the two best teams from the Super 4 stage will compete for the championship title.
