What is Abhishek Sharma's 'L' celebration? Who is it aimed at?
Abhishek Sharma has explained the reason behind his now-viral “L” celebration during India’s six-wicket win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup Super Four stage in Dubai.
The young batter produced a blistering 74 off 39 deliveries, tearing into Pakistan’s bowling attack to help India chase down a 172-run target with ease.

His innings, which included a 24-ball half-century, which was also the fastest by an Indian against Pakistan, set the tone for a dominant performance at the Dubai International Stadium.
After reaching his fifty, Abhishek blew kisses toward the stands where his family was seated, before raising his hand to form an “L” gesture. The celebration sparked curiosity, with many fans speculating about its meaning. Post-match, he explained the thought behind it.
“This is love, it is a celebration for those who support the Indian team. This is for India,” Abhishek told captain Suryakumar Yadav in a video posted by BCCI.

The 25-year-old added that the presence of his family made the evening even more memorable. “It is very special because I feel their record is going very well for me. Whenever they come, we have won the game one-sidedly. Even today, we won the contest one-sidedly. It is a special feeling when family members come,” he remarked.
Talking with his captain, Abhishek also drew a personal connection between his innings and his father, Raj Kumar Sharma. “Today I remembered my dad because of the way you were standing and saying take one run, he used to do the same, sitting in front of the sight screen. That’s where I pay the most attention to. I am used to it, and you asked me two to three times to push for a single,” Abhishek told Suryakumar in the video.
Abhishek’s explosive knock and his heartfelt celebration combined to make the night a memorable one for both the player and the Indian supporters.
