The new champion shared that becoming world champion had been a long-held aspiration since his childhood.

"(In 2013) I looked at Vishy Sir and Magnus and thought, it will be really cool to be there one day, and to actually be there and sit there and see the Indian flag next to me was probably the best moment."

"I've been dreaming about this and living this moment since I was 6 or 7. Every chess player wants to live this moment. I'm living my dream. I'd like to thank God from candidates till the championship."

Gukesh also expressed his respect and admiration for his opponent, Ding Liren.

"To me Ding is a real world champion. He fought like a true champion and I'm sorry for Ding and team. I would like to thank my opponent."

The newly crowned champion acknowledged his parents' significant role in his journey. "The dream of winning world chess championship is bigger for them than for me."

Ding Liren reflected on the final game and the tournament as a whole. "It took while to realise that I blundered. I think I played my best tournament in the year."

Liren accepted the outcome and expressed no regrets about his performance.

"I could be better, but it's a fair result to lose in the end. I have no regrets."
