MANGALURU: Students from host Dakshina Kannada district came to the fore in the Karnataka state under-14 and under-17 selection trials for boys' and girls' for the SGFI Nationals 2017-18 that concluded on Thursday.

Host students' bagged top position in three of the four categories including the under-14 boys and girls section and under-17 boys section with

Tanisha Shital Gotadke

from Dharwad breaking this stranglehold on titles winning the under-17 girls title.

While

Shiva Chethan Halamane

and

Deepthi Lakshmi K

won the under-14 title for boys and girls respectively,

Shashank Bhat G S

completed a near sweep of titles for the host district pocketing the under-17 boys' title, but for Tanisha's effort in the three-day meet.

The top five finishers in each of the above sections will represent the state in the forthcoming School Games Federation of India National to be held at Warangal, Telangana from November 10 to 14.

Karnataka teams: Under-14: (Boys): Shiva Chethan Halame, Shree Krishna Pranama, Pankaj Bhat (all DK), Prajwal M Joshi (Belagavi), (Girls): Deepthi Lakshmi K and Srujana C Bhandary (DK), Dhanyashree P (Hassan), and Kushi M Hombal and Vinutha M Devadiga (Shivamogga); Under-17 (Boys): Shashank Bhat G S, Arjun Rao K (DK), Shreyas A Kulkarni, Manoj B Kulkarni (Belagavi), and Anand Sullad (Dharwad); and (Girls): Tanisha Shital Gotadke, Shriya R Revankar (Dharwad), Priyanka Narayan (Kodagu), Ashwini Koteshwara (Udupi) and Afreen Tabassum (Tumakuru).
