Final flourish at All India AK Mishra boxing championship

Bangalore's Amarjeet Singh beat Umesh Yadav 5-1 in the semifinals, while Andhra Pradesh's T Prem Kumar beat Delhi's Pawan Singh (7-1) in the semifinals of the light flyweight (49kg) category of the 18th All India AK Mishra Boxing Championship at Skating Rink, Sector-10, on Saturday.

CHANDIGARH: Bangalore's Amarjeet Singh beat Umesh Yadav 5-1 in the semifinals, while Andhra Pradesh's T Prem Kumar beat Delhi's Pawan Singh (7-1) in the semifinals of the light flyweight (49kg) category of the 18th All India AK Mishra Boxing Championship at Skating Rink, Sector-10, on Saturday. In the flyweight (52kg) category Mahimainathan of Pune blanked Rajesh Kumar of Haryana (5-0).

Uttrakhand's Sunil Shukla gave a knockout punch to Tamil Nadu's Ashrap Ali to move into the final. In bantamweight category (56kg) ITBP's Ramavtar got a walkover Manjeet Kumar of Haryana. But Punjab's Jagbir Singh beat Delhi's Naveen Kumar in a high scoring match (11-10). In the lightweight (60kg) category, Shahanshar of Madhya Pradesh prevailed over Haryana's Vikram (8-1), while Pardeep Kumar prevailed over West Bengal's Amit Roy (8-6).
Haryana's Manjeet beat Punjab's Bikramjeet Singh (8-1), while Arif Uddin beat Mayengbam Thomash Meitei (3-1) in the light welterweight category. Pune's Narendar Singh prevailed over Bhupendar Singh (7-2)and Ravinder Patcha blanked Mahmood Khan (5-0) in the welterweight category. In the middleweight (75 kg) category, Sukhdeep Singh beat Devanshu 2-0, while Pune's Harpal got a walkover Himachal Pradesh's Naveen.
In the light heavyweight (81kg) category, Berinder Singh of Pune registered a 6-2 win over Sunil, while Haryana's Kuldeep Singh prevailed over Jaspal Rana as referee stopped the contest. In the heavyweight category, Amit Kumar beat Rohit and Sujeet Kumar prevailed over Kanwarpreet Singh (3-1). In the super heavyweight category, Varun Kumar beat Gurbinder Singh of Punjab 14-11.
