HYDERABAD: Security concerns may have forced his two compatriots to pull out from the World Badminton Championships, but Austrian Michael Lahnsteiner says he decided to stay back and compete, as he was satisfied with the safety measures in place.
"I'm not afraid. The tournament has been organized very well and I feel safe here," Lahnsteiner told TOI on Thursday, while waiting outside the stadium for the transport to take him to the hotel.
The 25-year-old said his teammates, the men's doubles pair of Peter Zauner and Juergen Koch, who left Hyderabad on Monday night, consulted him before leaving.

"They asked me if I wanted to go back home with them. But, I wanted to stay back because it's my first World Championships. Even though I knew I didn't have much of a chance in the opener against Sony Dwi Kuncoro, I wanted to compete," added the Austrian who lost 13-21, 9-21 to the Indonesian sixth seed.
Lahnsteiner revealed that his compatriots took an individual decision to go back home and that it was not ordered by their Embassy.
