Supreme Court quashes criminal proceedings against shuttler Lakshya Sen in case of fabrication of birth certificate

New Delhi: In a relief to badminton players Lakshya Sen and his brother Chirag Sen, the Supreme Court on Monday quashed criminal proceedings initiated against them on allegation of fabricating their birth certificates to participate in the underage tournament, after noting that there was no evidence to prove it and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) had already given them a clean chit after holding inquiry and medical tests.

A bench of Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Aravind Kumar allowed the plea of the brothers for quashing the FIR.

It said the suggestion that a criminal investigation was necessary to test the allegations “rings hollow.”
