Sant bags double crown, Joshi triumphs in Nagpur Media Badminton

NAGPUR: Vijay Sant played to his full potential to bag a double crown in the Vatsalya Group-sponsored 10th SJAN badminton tournament for media employees which concluded at the Subhedar Hall here on Saturday.
In the men’s singles final, Sant upset top seed Ashish Jain to avenge last year’s defeat. The duo of Sant and Vivek Puradbhat then won the men’s doubles too.
Earlier, Manjusha Joshi of Maharasthra Times reigned supreme in the women’s singles, while TOI’s Aparna Nair finished runner-up.
NDBA president Kunda Vijaykar, NDBA vice-president Amit Bajaj and vice-chancellor of Nagpur University Vilas Sapkal distributed the prizes. Shuttles for the tournament were sponsored by Li Ning. They also sponsored the prizes for the winners.

Men’s singles (semifinals): 2-Vijay Sant (Loksatta) bt 3-Suhas Nayse (TOI) 21-7, 21-11; 1-Ashish Jain (Lokmat) bt Madhav Soman (TOI) 21-9, 21-7.
Final: 2-Vijay Sant bt 1-Ashish Jain 21-18, 17-21, 21-15.
Men’s doubles (semis): Ashish Jain-Alshar Khan (Lokmat) bt 2-Sunil Warrier-Manish Sakharwade 21-6, 17-21, 21-15; Vijay Sant-Vivek Puradbhat (Loksatta) bt 1-Suhas Nayse-Madhav Soman (TOI) 21-15, 21-17.
Final: Vijay Sant-Vivek Puradbhat (Loksatta) bt Ashish Jain-Alshar Khan (Lokmat) 21-8, 21-19.
Women’s final: Manjusha Joshi (MT) bt Aparna Nair (TOI) 21-9.
