Rohan, Malvika, Ritika storm into Junior Badminton Nationals quarterfinals

NAGPUR: Rohan Gurbani, Malvika Bansod and Ritika Thaker continued their dazzling display to storm into the quarterfinals of the 42nd Junior (U-17 and U-19) National Badminton Championships at Guwahati on Saturday.

14 seed Karnataka's Tejas Kallolkar 21-19, 21-16 in 35 minutes.
Later in the evening, the 15-year-old Rohan caused a major upset when he stunned second seed K Sathish Kumar 21-13, 21-17. Rohan, a Standard IX student of Centre Point School, Katol Road, made the light work of Tamil Nadu's Sathish and recorded straight-game win in just 34 minutes.
Rohan, who trains at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy at Bangalore, will now square off against sixth seed Iman Sonowal of Assam on Sunday.
Similarly, Malvika maintained her unbeaten spree in both the U-17 and U-19 girls singles and booked her place in the last eight.
In the U-19 girls singles quarterfinal, 16-year-old Malvika will take on Dipti Kuity of Gujarat, while in the U-17 section, the city southpaw and second seed will face fifth seed Gayatri Gopichand Pullela of Telangana.
Second seeds Ritika Thaker and Simran Singhi advanced in both the U-17 and U-19 girls doubles category with ease.

However, it was curtains for other city shuttlers Mugdha Agrey, Rashi Lambe and Sourabh Kerhalkar.
