HYDERABAD: Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk and Rituparna Das helped North Eastern Warriors notch up their first victory in the PBL-4 at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium here.

Warriors, who lost their first match against Ahmedabad on Sunday, trounced Mumbai Rockets on Thursday. The mixed doubles combination of Ha Na Kim and Min Chun Liao secured the first point for Warrriors when they eased past Gi Jung Kim and Pia Zebadiah Bernadet 15-6, 15-13.

Rockets picked their first men’s singles as their Trump but Anders Antonsen pushed his team into trouble as he lost to Tanongsak 9-15, 15-10, 11-15. Rockets’ decision was surprising as Tanongsak is a better player than Antonsen.

Tanongsak won the first game without breaking sweat before Antonsen drew level. In the decider, Antonsen worked hard to stay in contention but after the eighth point, the Thai shuttler broke free. Executing jump smashes with ease, Tanongsak widened the gap to 13-10 before clinching the tie at 15-11.

As icon player Saina Nehwal is yet to recover from her shin injury, Rituparna played the women’s singles. Warriors had so much faith in the Bengali girl that they picked her match as their Trump.

The 22-year-old recovered to beat

Shreyanshi Pardeshi

12-15, 15-10, 15-12. Ranked 202 in the world, Shreyanshi gave a tough time to the world No.55. But after winning the first game, the 20-year-old was off guard in the second and allowed Rituparna to make a comeback. In the third game, Shreyanshi gave her best but at 11-12 made a couple of unforced errors.
