NAGPUR: India No. 1 Rohan Gurbani stormed into the U-15 boys singles quarterfinal in the 30th Sub Junior National Badminton Championship at Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, on Saturday.

However, Friday’s hero Sudhanshu Bhure, who knocked out top seed in the second round, went down fighting in the pre-quarterfinal.

Second seed Rohan had little trouble in ousting Sushil Nayak of Goa 21-7, 21-11 in 20 minutes. Later in the evening in the pre-quarters, Rohan also registered a straight-game victory over Manipur’s Punshiba Yengkhom 21-16, 21-16.

Rohan, a Standard VIII student of Centre Point School, Katol Road, will clash with sixth seed Priyanshu Rajawat of

Madhya Pradesh

in the quarterfinal on Sunday morning.

Rohan’s schoolmate and practice partner Sudhanshu was unlucky to join him in the last eight.

Sudhanshu squandered away match point in the second game to lost the pre-quarter against ninth seed Chhattisgarh’s Jaiditya Pratap Singh 21-16, 22-24, 14-21.

Unseeded Sudhanshu won the first game easily and was leading in the second but some unforced errors cost him dearly.

In the U-15 boys doubles pre-quarters, Sudhanshu and his partner Parth Ghube lost to fifth seeds Ishaan Bhatnagar and

Ayush Raj Gupta

14-21, 17-21.

The city pair of Aditi Sadhankar and

Nikkita Joseph

also reached quarters in the U-13 girls doubles. Aditi-Nikkita edged out

Isharani Baruah

and Rikshita Chaliha in the pre-quarters.

U-15 boys singles (Round 3): Sudhanshu Bhure bt Angshuman Gogoi 20-22, 21-19, 21-9; 2-Rohan Gurbani bt Sushil Nayak 21-7, 21-11.

(Round 4): 2-Rohan Gurbani bt Punshiba Yengkhom 21-16, 21-16; Sudhanshu Bhure lost to 9-Jaiditya Pratap Singh 21-16, 22-24, 14-21.

U-15 boys doubles (Round 2): Sudhanshu Bhure-Parth Ghube bt Sidharath Bhushan-Tushar Kumar Setu 21-8, 21-14.

(Round 3): Sudhanshu Bhure-Parth Ghube lost to 5-Ishaan Bhatnagar-Ayush Raj Gupta 14-21, 17-21.

U-13 girls doubles (Round 2): 5-Nikkita Joseph-Aditi Sadhankar bt Pranjal Sharma-Unnati Jaral 21-6, 21-6.

(Round 3): 5-Nikkita Joseph-Aditi Sadhankar bt Isharani Baruah-Rikshita Chaliha 21-15, 9-21, 21-16.
