Nagpur District Badminton Championship: Mrunmayi, Varad begin campaign in style

Second seed and hot favourite Mrunmayi Saoji started her women's singles campaign in style on the opening day of the Baidyanath Nagpur District Open Badminton Championship at the Dhanwate National College Sports Complex, Congress Nagar, on Saturday.

NAGPUR: Second seed and hot favourite Mrunmayi Saoji started her women's singles campaign in style on the opening day of the Baidyanath Nagpur District Open Badminton Championship at the Dhanwate National College Sports Complex, Congress Nagar, here on Saturday.
Former junior state champion Mrunmayi had no trouble in recording two facile wins to seal her spot in the semifinals.

Mrunmayi first crushed Triveni Mudliar 15-6, 15-0 and later in the day, she thumped Shruti Chokhandre 21-9, 21-6 to clinch last-4 berth.
Joining Mrunmayi in the semis are top seed Priyanka Pillay, Komal Bhawnani and fourth seed Anjali Kshirsagar.
In the men's singles, top seed Varad Gajbhiye, second seed Pranav Lokhande, former multiple district champion Jayendra Dhole and other seeded players sailed into the third round wich comfortable victories over their respective rivals.
In the U-10 boys singles first round, Sharvil Deshmukh, Parth Deshmukh, Nakul Deshmukh, Sparsh Nandanwar, Nishil Umate, Rachit Nayse and Vihan Mudliyar registered straight-games victories over their respective rivals.
Anuva Shiwarkar, Sanvi Dahiwele, Shravani Ganar and Nandini Vaidya advanced into the next round in the U-10 girls singles.
