Earlier, Prannoy recovered after losing the second game to beat Brian Young of Canada 21-12, 17-21, 21-15. Malvika ousted Goh Jin Wei of Malaysia 21-15, 21-15. Satwik-Chirag beat Ming Che Lu and Tang Kai Wei of Chinese Taipei 21-10 , 1621, 21-5. Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto downed Sung Hyun Ko and Hye Won Eom of South Ko rea 21-13, 21-14. In an all-Indian mixed doubles tie, Sathish Karunakaran and Aadya Variyath eased past Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh 21-13, 21-15.

Prannoy, whose first round match was deferred to Wednesday following a leaky roof, worked hard against Young. The Indian, who was leading 6-3 in the second game on Tuesday, lost momentum on Wednesday as Young moved ahead from 9-9 to 14-11 before winning at 21-17.

However, Prannoy came back strongly in the third securing an 11-5 lead and winning the game with a big margin of 21-15. Prannoy will face Li Shi Feng of China, who defeated Priyanshu Rajawat 21-11, 21-16 in the first round. Prannoy enjoys a 3-1 win-loss record against Li.

Malvika is the lone Indian left in women’s singles. The Nagpur girl will face third seed Han Yue of China in the second round.
