NEW DELHI: Ace Indian shuttler Parupalli Kashyap stormed into the singles second round of the Austrian International Challenge Badminton tournament with an easy straight-game victory over Jan Frohlich of Czech Republic in Vienna on Thursday.
Top seed Kashyap beat his opponent 21-13 21-12 in just 27 minutes. He faces Emil Holst of Denmark in the second round.
In women's section, P C Thulasi scored an upset victory over third seed Elizabeth Cann of England.
The promising Indian beat her opponent 21-17 21-13 in 33 minutes.
In the second round, Thulasi faces Aiying Xing of Singapore who beat Claudia Mayer of the host country 21-8 21-17.
Two other Indians also advanced to the second round of the women's singles.
Aditi Mutatkar beat Iris Wang of the United States 21-17 21-15 in the first round. She is now up against qualifier Alesia Zaitsava of Belarus in the second round.
Neha Pandit also made it to the second round with a come-from-behind 16-21 21-16 21-9 win over Telma Santos of Portugal.
In the second round, Pandit now runs into top seed Tsz Ka Chan of Hong Kong who beat Tatjana Bibik of Russia 21-11 21-14 in the first round.
Earlier, Pandit had made it to the main draw after defeating Dimitria Popstoikova of Bulgaria 21-15 21-16 in the qualification round.
In mixed doubles, the Indian pair of Hemanagendra Babu and P Jyotshna defeated Maurice Niesner and Severine Corvilain of Belgium 21-11 19-21 21-13.
In the second round, the Indian duo is up against English pair of Ben Stawski and Lauren Smith who defeated Dominik Stipsits and Katrin Neudolt of the host country 21-15 21-19 in the first round.
