HYDERABAD: Indian shuttlers came a cropper en masse at the very beginning of the Chinese Taipei Grand Prix Gold. They gave a poor account of themselves and crashed out in the first round itself.
Though the second-rung Indian team was not expected to make much progress, few imagined such a meek surrender. If women's national champion Aditi Mutatkar disappointed by lasting only 25 minutes, the men's double's pair of Jishnu Sanyal and Manu Attri were not allowed to stay on the court for more than 17 minutes.

Aditi proved no match for Shao Chieh Cheng of Taipei, losing 12-21, 11-21, while PC Thulasi gave a walkover to Yi Ju Chiu of Taipei. So abject was Aditi's surrender that she managed to secure just two points through smashes.
She was unable to control the rampaging Tai and confined herself to the retrieving act. Though Aditi managed to start well, her fate was sealed by the halfway stage in both the games. Shao was leading 11-3 at the break in the first game and 11-6 by the interval in the second. The Indian did not try much after that.
Manu and Jishnu lost to Alvent Yulianto Chandra and Hendra Aprida Gunawan of Indonesia 16-21, 12-21. Though the Indian duo opened up with a brief lead in both games, they were soon reduced to mere spectators by the marauding Indonesians.
The Indians started with a 2-0 lead and looked good till the break at 9-11. However, the Indonesians jumped to 17-9 after the break, leaving no chance for Jishnu and Manu.
Chandra and Gunawan, who are seeded fourth here, upped the ante in the second and won the game in no time (21-12). Earlier, Anand Pawar, the lone Indian in the men's singles section, pulled out of the event at the last minute.
Chief coach Pullela Gopichand was unhappy with the performance of his wards. "The draw was tough but they should have played better. This will be a good learning experience for them," Gopichand said.
