NAGPUR: The fifteenth edition of Gaikwad-Patil International School Media
Badminton tournament, organized by the Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur in association with Department of Physical Education of Nagpur University, will be held at the Subhedar Hall from April 20 to 22.
Men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles events will be played during the annual three-day tourney.
In mixed doubles, the players can play with their wives. Cash prizes and trophies will be given to the winners, runners-up and semi-finalists.
The entry fee for singles is Rs 30 and Rs 50 for doubles. Matches will be played with Yonex feather shuttles. Yonex will sponsor the T-shirts for all the winners and runners-up.
The last date of entry is April 18 and the draws will be declared on April 19.
Last year Lokmat’s Ashish Jain triumphed in the men’s singles, while Suhas Nayse of The Times of India (TOI) finished runner-up. In doubles, debutants Ameya Manke and Mahesh Sarangi pair of Navbharat emerged champions defeating Ashish Jain and Pravin Kathane of Lokmat in the final.
Rakhi Chavan of Loksatta reigned supreme in the women’s singles. In mixed doubles, Lokmat pair of Ashish Jain and Meenal Jain won the title.
Chairman of Gaikwad-Patil Group Mohan Gaikwad said they are happy to be associated with the SJAN. “Media Badminton tournament is very popular among the newspaper employees of the city. I am sure the forthcoming tourney will also be very successful,” said Mohan Gaikwad.
