LUCKNOW: There were surprises galore for home side Awadhe Warriors on Republic Day as they conceded an unassailable 0-4 lead to Hyderabad Hunters with the rubber just three match old at BBD Badminton Academy.
It turned out to be a Super Sunday for the visitors as Vladimir Ivanov and Sikki Reddy upstaged the Awadhe Warriors’ ‘trump’ mixed doubles match against Shin Baek Cheol and Christina Pedersen 15-12, 15-14.

The hosts made the cardinal error of changing the pairing and going out all new. In the previous match against North East Warriors, KS Hyun and Christina Pedersen played and won. Ivanov and Reddy cashed on it to turn the tables on the Warriors. A win in the ‘trump’ match gives two points, and a loss takes away two points.
After Sourabh Verma had earned the opening point for Hyderabad by overcoming Subhankar Dey 14-15, 15-12, 15-10, the defeat of Cheol and Pedersen meant Tanvi Lad had to defeat PV Sindhu to keep the side afloat. But Sindhu was in good form to win 15-8, 15-8 to seal the tie in favour of Hyderabad Hunters.
