Aryamann, Anoushka shine in junior nationals

Two Gujarat shuttlers — Aryamann Tandon and Anoushka Parikh — did the state proud by winning bronze medals at the 40th Junior National Championships that concluded in Jaipur on Sunday.

AHMEDABAD: Two Gujarat shuttlers — Aryamann Tandon and Anoushka Parikh — did the state proud by winning bronze medals at the 40th Junior National Championships that concluded in Jaipur on Sunday.
Aryamann, who trains at the Prakash Padukone Academy, Bangalore, stormed into under-17 boys semifinals where he went down to second seed Arintap Dasgupta 21-13, 21-15 and had to settle for the third place.

The 12th seed Aryamann’s biggest moment came in the quarterfinals when he upset fifth seed Kartikey Gulshan Kumar of Delhi 21-19, 19-21, 22-20 in a match lasting one hour and 20 minutes, the longest of the tournament.
Featuring in her last junior tournament, Anoushka won the bronze partnering Sanjana Santosh of Air India in under-19 doubles category.
In the semifinals, the fourth-seeded pair was beaten 20-22, 19-21 by the eventual champions and seventh seed Ashwini Bhatt and Mithula UK of Karnataka.
