in Birmingham on Wednesday.


Gayatri-Treesa will join PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and the men's doubles pair of

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty

in the second round of the BWF Super 1000 event. While Sindhu downed Wang Zhi Yi of China 21-18, 21-13, Saina defeated Beatriz Corrales of Spain 21-17, 21-19.

However, nine Indians including

Sai Praneeth

and HS Prannoy crashed out of the Super 1000 event.

Gayatri and Treesa ousted India Open champions Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakarn Aimsaard of Thailand 17-21, 22-20, 21-14. The youngsters saved two match points to take the second and dominated their higher ranked opponents in the decider. Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy lost their first round encounter to unseeded

Rin Iwanaga

and Kie Nakanishi of Japan 9-21, 13-21.

Satwik-Chirag registered a 21-17, 21-19 win over Alexander Dunn and Adam Hall of Scotland.

Sai Praneeth lost to top seed

of Denmark 20-22, 19-21. Though Prannoy fought hard, he failed to get past 20-year-old Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand 15-21, 22-24. The former world junior champion had defeated Lakshya Sen in the German Open final on Saturday.

Sameer Verma failed to put up a fight against Mark Caljouw of Netherlands and lost 18-21, 11-21.
