Mahashivratri: Awakening to The Call of Time
Have you noticed how everything around us seems to be silently turning chaotic? Science calls this the Entropy - A natural tendency of every system to move from order to disorder unless fresh energy is infused. Entropy applies not only to matter, but equally to human consciousness. Consider what we see today: The urge to separate, fearful thinking, rising stress, blaming others for our emotions, spread of conflict - these are not random occurrences. They are entropy in action, indicating a decline in our consciousness.
But we were not always like this.
There was an era preserved in our memory - Swarnim Bharat, the Golden Age, a time of divinity, purity, and inner order. Human consciousness was at its highest. Peace was natural and harmony was a way of life.
Over thousands of years, consciousness declined - silently, slowly. From Satyug (Golden Age) to Tretayug (Silver Age), then to Dwapuryug (Copper Age) and finally to Kaliyug (Iron Age) - values weakened, purity diminished, inner power depleted. The fall was so gradual that we did not realize when unity turned into divisiveness, and peace into restlessness.
Today, we stand at the depths of Kaliyug or spiritual darkness where our sanskars vibrate at their lowest. The world is a mirror, so what we experience outside is a collective reflection of what exists within. This world will not change through systems or policies. It changes when we change. It follows a spiritual law: Sanskar se Sansar - as are our sanskars, so is our world.
To restore order, infusion of higher energy is essential. It’s not a time for minor improvements. A swift, paradigm shift in consciousness is needed. But in our depleted state, we cannot generate this shift on our own. A higher energy must enter the system.
This is what Maha Shivratri reminds us of.
Across spiritual traditions, it is remembered that when humanity reaches its lowest ebb, the Divine intervenes. God, the Incorporeal Supreme Power, reaches out at the darkest hour to awaken humanity from its long sleep of ignorance. Hence it is called Shivratri, Ratri meaning night.
Drops of Spiritual Wisdom
Picture a kalash placed atop the Shivling, water trickling drop by drop – it’s a profound metaphor. Each drop represents divine knowledge flowing from God, the Ocean of Wisdom, Peace, and Purity.
As we receive this wisdom daily and live by it, mind is purified, intellect is refined, and consciousness is transformed.
From Rituals to Realisation• Jagran (remaining awake): Awakening from ego consciousness to soul consciousness.
• Fasting: Refraining from other foods and consuming high-vibrational vegetarian food prepared in a meditative state energises the mind.
• Offering water and milk: Taking a pledge of purity in thoughts, words, and actions.
• Offering aak and datura: Offering these poisonous flowers symbolizes surrendering our vices - lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego.
• Consuming bhang: Symbolising spiritual intoxication - bliss of divine knowledge, love, and power.
Three Steps to Awaken the Satyugi SanskarsThis Shivratri, begin your journey back to Golden Age with these powerful shifts.
1. See the Soul, Not the Role. Every person - family, colleague, or stranger - is not their role, status, or achievements. They are a soul on a journey, carrying their own karmas and sanskars. When you connect soul to soul, you see them as equals. Superiority dissolves, inferiority vanishes, and criticism transforms into compassion. Soul consciousness instantly raises your vibration and restores ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ - the world is one family.
2. Put a Full Stop: Our minds are addicted to overthinking - racing with worry, fear, anger, and judgment - draining soul power. Practice creating one high vibration thought in response to any person or situation, then stop. Not a question mark. Not an exclamation. Not a comma. A full stop. Minimal thinking conserves energy; overthinking depletes it.
3. Prioritise Karma Over Achievement: Achievements matter, but the quality of our karma creates destiny. Criticism, comparison, jealousy, and seeking validation deplete you while you act. Remember: achievements stay behind but karma travels with you, in this life and beyond.
The night is ending. The dawn awaits. The world is asleep. Will you awaken?
