Adjustment: The Key to Everlasting Relief
Thousands of meanings and examples follow the word ‘Adjust’. Whether it is adjusting to a place, an emotion, an individual or a situation. No matter how little or big the extent of the concern, the main goal is to adjust to something or someone peacefully. There are many benefits to being able to adjust everywhere, of which the most important is self-growth. Life will appear more beautiful and less stressful.
Adjusting in the household is the most important because family surrounds us the most often. With a healthy family, one can drastically attain a tranquil mind. For example, if there are issues concerning food, one should not make a big deal out of things, as it is not worth hurting anyone else for it. Adjust within oneself, by reducing the quantity of the food you take or eat it with another food, but make sure that you do not hurt whoever made the food.
This also relates to living with a spouse. If work around the house is not done properly, calmly finish the work as you are the one who wants it done in a certain way. Alternatively, you can find a way to live around it, as the objects that are misplaced and in the wrong place are also not worth hurting the feelings of another.
As Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan had said, “There should be no conflicts in your home. Adjustments will bring harmony during difficult situations in life”. Adjusting is the only way to live in peace and happiness. Without making adjustments there will not be satisfaction and can cause more friction within relationships.
When it comes to relationships with a spouse, children or a friend, one should not judge someone’s character. To accept one’s personality and not attempt to change that person is truly adjusting.
If the opposite person is unhappy with your decisions, find a way to adjust so that the situation is equally acceptable to all. For example, Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan explained, “If someone were to tell me that my words do not make any sense, I would tell him that he is correct. I would immediately make my adjustments.” To hurt the opposite person or to make the person not feel content with you is not adjusting. Want to learn more about how to Adjust Everywhere? Therefore, the main key in dealing with other people in terms of adjusting is not to hurt them and to see that they are also human just as you are.
Speaking of being human, spiritually and religiously, we all have God or a Soul inside us that is equally filled with energy. Just as any other living creature, even bugs have a Soul or God residing within. In small matters such as entering a room with a cockroach roaming amongst the walls, one should not kill the insect by being frightened. This insect also shares the same source within it that gives them life just as humans. Adjust to the room; the insect has a body size of a coin. Compared to a human, the insect should be the one that is frightened.
Even in the silliest situations like this, practicing and following various adjustments allows one to be aware that there can be adjustments made all around them. Only then will one be in harmony with their surroundings and attain peace in their daily life.
Attaining this awareness and the knowledge that all the circumstances are temporary, allows one to keep an awareness of the true Self, the God or Soul that is within.
