A Journey From Fear to Freedom
Do you like to live in fear? A constant fear? No, no one would like it! Yet in today’s world, almost everyone we see is in the clasp of fear, fright and apprehension.
When the true understanding that leads to fearlessness takes hold in a person, one knows that his track has changed and now, it's only a matter of time before he gets to his final destination!
So what is this true understanding? Come, let us understand…
Fear is actually a natural instinct, present in all living beings. And this instinct is necessary to the extent of keeping the world in some order. For instance, the little puppy, due to the fear instinct, immediately moves out of the way of a fast approaching car as it listens to the sound of the horn; this avoids a lot of problems that could possibly arise.
Further to the natural instinct of fear, we human beings also have in addition, an inner psyche, which causes imaginary fears. Imaginary fears are nothing but a false creation of the mind. Say, you visit some place and see something that scares you, your psyche will continue to scare you even when you are back home. This is due to the various beliefs that have taken hold within us due to which the fear arising in our worldly interactions from time to time. But with the help of the Gnani, as each belief stemming from our ignorance leaves, all types of fears start diminishing and the fearless state gets increasingly established.
These fears are irrational and in fact have no substance in them. However, they seem very real to us because of ignorance. Yes, wherever there is ignorance, there is bound to be a presence of imaginary fear.
What ignorance is it and how can we get rid of it?
Just like an illusory ghost haunts us all night in the darkness and vanishes as soon as there is light in the room; similarly, our fear in daily life too exists until there is ignorance of the Self (the darkness within), and as soon as the light of knowledge dawns upon us, all kinds of fear vanish! ‘Ignorance of the Self’ - what does that mean, and how shall the light of knowledge dawn?
We are ignorant of our own Self. The Gnani (one who is Self Realized) can dispel our ignorance and make us fearless by making us realize our true Self. i.e. the Pure Soul! The Soul is our true Self and it is separate and free from all the instincts, imagination, and their effects too. The Gnani establishes within us the right vision and understanding of our true Self, ‘I am pure Soul’ and fearlessness commences from that very moment!
Until you happen to meet the Gnani, here is what you can do:
Understand that whatever is going to happen is all decided, so why unnecessarily harbor a constant fear for anything that we do not have control over?
Apologize to the God within the person who you are feeling contempt for, every time the feeling of contempt and disgust towards them arises within you.
Maintain a pure intent in your mind that “let no living being suffer any hurt by me” and with this intent, perform your duties as much as you can.
Last but not the least, pray sincerely that you meet the ‘Gnani’ soon, and then you will become fearless in its true sense!
You can become fearless, if you surrender yourself to Gnani (Spiritual Master). Read here
