Great Indian family drama to go the Comedy Circus way?

Sony Entertainment Television's renowned show Comedy Circus has entertained the audience for almost seven years. However, the makers had put an end to the show saying that they will come back with a new format as they were running the same format for years now.The latest we hear is that The Great Indian Family Drama which airs on SAB TV, is in plans to change its format and go the Comedy Circus way. A source informs, "It seems that direction for the show has failed and that's the reason why the makers have turned towards the old standard format of turning the show into a stand up comedy. The previous episode of the show saw Archana Puran Singh (who plays Begum) and Satish Kaushik (who plays Nawab) sitting in the front watching the acts done by seasonal comedians. The initial concept failed to grab eye balls resulting in this conceptual change in the format. Comedians like Rehman Khan, TV's Gangu bai Saloni, VIP, Rajiv Thakur, Rajeev Nigam, Ehsaan Qureshi were part of the episode where they did several acts," adds a source. As below the belt jokes were never encouraged and SAB TV being a family channel, The Great Indian Family Drama will definitely be the cleaner version of Comedy Circus.

If noticed, The Great Indian Family Drama's format was on the lines of Comedy Nights with Kapil. However, it failed to reach to the audience. Here are a few other TV shows that are inspired by CNWK. Have a look!

Though none of the other comedy shows have crossed the popularity of Comedy Nights with Kapil, a few have been inspired by it. FIR: The show went through a transformation. The Imaan Police Chowki of FIR will have a live audience, like Comedy Nights with Kapil. Just like the audience interacts with the star cast and the celebrities who appear on Comedy Nights with Kapil, FIR audience too will participate in solving cases. As a part of the chowki, a group of prisoners are seen posing as musicians, adding a melodious touch to the show.

Mad In India: The cold war that took place between Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover (Gutthi) is no more a secret. Much was written about Gutthi's exit from Comedy Nights with Kapil and Sunil Grover's new show on the rival channel. Mad In India too had a similar format to that of Comedy Nights... where each episode saw celebrities gracing the show in order to promote their films or generally chit-chat with the host. But unfortunately, the show bit the dust within three months of its launch and was pulled off by the channel due to low TRP. Sunil Grover and the channel's efforts were in vain as the show which was launched in competition with Comedy Nights... didn't do well.

Tu Mere Agal Bagal Hai: Though SAB TV's new offering, Tu Mere Agal Bagal Hai featuring the ultimate babuji-Alok Nath and versatile Supriya Pathak, is not the exact copy of Comedy Nights with Kapil, somewhere it is inspired by the format of the show in the form of a live audience. However in Tu Mere Agal Bagal Hai, audience doesn't interact with the star cast on stage but just enjoys the show. The bottom line remains the same that the format is somewhat inspired by Comedy Nights with Kapil.

Dabal Ek Timepass: This is a lighthearted comedy show which airs on Star Pravah. The show is hosted by Swapnil Joshi and its concept is similar to that of Comedy Nights with Kapil. There is a live audience sitting in front of the stage and a popular celebrity graces the sets in each episode and interacts with the audience. The show also has characters which come up on the show to perform a gag, like Comedy Nights... This particular show was launched immediately after Comedy Nights with Kapil started getting popular.
