WB Voter Roll Controversy: Howrah TMC Supporters Accuse EC of Bias in SIR
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls has triggered controversy in Howrah ahead of West Bengal’s 2026 assembly elections. Minority supporters of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) allege bias after nearly 91 lakh names were deleted statewide, including six lakh in Howrah district.Entire families and local leaders report being removed from electoral rolls, particularly due to the “logical discrepancy” filter, which struck off 27 lakh names in addition to those absent or deceased. Election authorities have advised voters to approach tribunals, but concerns remain over the potential disenfranchisement of affected citizens, intensifying tensions ahead of the polls.
