Shocking Slip: German Minister Confuses Two World Wars In Ukraine Peace Remarks

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul sparked confusion at a Munich Security Conference forum in Berlin after appearing to mix up the First and Second World Wars during remarks on a Ukraine peace deal. While stressing the need for a “sustainable solution,” he referenced post–World War II conditions but then described the military’s anger over politicians signing a peace treaty—an event tied to World War I and the Weimar Republic. World War II, however, ended with Nazi Germany’s defeat.
