SURAT: The ongoing National Basketball Championships will be Sheeba Maggon's last tournament. At 32, and with 20 years' experience of playing for Indian teams, Sheeba, the seniormost national player, has had a long and satisfying innings and she is going out with a feeling of great satisfaction.
The forward, who hails from Karnal in Punjab and who has represented Railways (seven years), Delhi (7), Chandigarh (5) and Haryana once, has earned her FIBA referees badge and will maintain her association with the sport in another capacity.

"I'm sure I will love my new role in the game," she said on the sidelines of the Nationals here on Sunday.
The reason Shiba got into the game is a poignant one. "My elder sister Shelley used to pull me to the courts against my will. I didn't really like basketball." However, Shelley died young in a tragic accident and Sheeba took up basketball in a big way. "I wanted to fulfil her dream and my parents supported me."
