On a spring day in 2000, a regular dog walker was walking through the wet, tidal beaches of a small town called Happisburgh in Norfolk when he spotted something unusual.
The object was smooth, dark, and heavy, standing out from the thousands of ordinary pebbles scattered across the shore. Recognising that the rock possessed distinct, intentionally chipped edges, the walker decided to pick it up and pass it along to local museum specialists for evaluation.

Such a tool became an extremely useful resource used by people for cutting trees and bushes in order to hunt for animals in a prehistoric floodplain.
