NEW DELHI: The neighbourhood assembler may soon have something to worry about. Rolling out nationally this month is the branded PC from Samsung. In a tie-up with Intel, Samsung’s buildurPC with product (configuration) and price flexibility a la the local assembler, is going to be rolled out in a total of 180 towns.
Being test-marketed so far in eight towns, the PC has shown a good response says Vivek Prakash, vice-president, Samsung Electronics India Information and Telecommunication Ltd. “The sale in these towns has risen from five units to 30, he says.
To be sold on the “your need, your product, your price plank, the branded PC aims to give the flexibility an assembler scores on. The entry-level Samsung PC can therefore be taken home for as little as Rs 20,000.
Samsung has tied up with Intel (for the central processing unit) for the PC kit that it will be supplying to its four assemblers all over India. They in turn will distribute the PC that Samsung will market and promote. It will be present in 5,600 retail and demonstration points by the year-end. Currently, of the approximately 2 million PC market in India, about 35-40 per cent is with the branded PC makers.
