American audio brand Altec Lansing recently launched its new earphones- MZX145-BLK for Rs 1,340. Altec Lansing aims to compete with the likes of Skullcandy with its new offering for mobile users. Like others, this one too features in-line mic and controllers.
We spent some time with the earphones to know how they perform and if they are worth the price. Here is the review.
Build and design
Altec Lansing MZX145-BLK looks ordinary. If we weren’t already aware of the price, we would have never been able to guess that it costs over Rs 1,000.
The plastic earpieces along with average quality earbuds falls short of expectations. Also, the flat cable gets tangled easily. For the price, we have seen better quality of earbuds. Some brands even offer kevlar reinforced cables. The in-line controllers offer play/pause and volume control buttons.
While the branding on the box appears attractive, the actual looks are nothing close to it. Altec Lansing should have paid more attention to the aesthetics.
Performance
The earphones were good at cancelling noise but the output quality doesn’t impress. It lacked the punch expected from earphones priced in this range. For bass lovers, it has very little to offer. The treble levels are decent.
Altec Lansing MZX145-BLK fails to please us with its design as well as performance. Opting for a Mi Piston 2 or other cheaper Skullcandy options is a better deal. Altec Lansing needs to sync its offerings as per the likes of Indian masses, which mostly love bass. As far as this one is concerned, it’s better skipped.
