Many women are still confused about the date of celebrating Vat Purnima due to Adhik Maas so we must guide you that this year, Vat Purnima is not going to be observed on May 30 but it will be observed on June 29 because after the Adhik Maas ends.
Purnima is one of the most significant days. There are total 12 Purnima observances in a year. Vat Purnima holds a great religious and spiritual significance among Hindus. Vat Purnima is the most special day when married women observe nirjala fast from sunrise till sunset for the longevity and well being of their husbands. The fast can also be observed by unmarried women to get the desired husband. They worship Vat vriksha or banyan tree.
Women wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath. After that they wear nice traditional clothes and adorned themselves with solah shringar. They prepare the thali for the puja - raw thread, water mixed with milk, fruits, incense sticks, earthen lamp, cotton wicks, ghee, kumkum, haldi, akshat (unbroken rice), flowers, roli and sweets. They worship Banyan tree by offerings water, applying haldi roli and kumkum, offer fruits, sweets and light incense sticks and diya with desi ghee, tie the sacred raw thread and circumambulate seven times and at last they recite the katha and seek blessings of banayan tree by and at last offer dakshina.
Adhik Maas is also known as Purushottam Maas. This month is dedicated to perform spiritual and religious activities and not for the auspicious events or fasts. It is believed that observing Vat Purnima vrat during adhik maas will not bring the desired benefits because this month is only for the spiritual cleansing, prayers, mantra chanting and removal of negative energies. This whole month is dedicated to maintain the discipline and introspection.
