Skanda Sashti is considered as one of the most auspicious observance, which falls every month on Sashti Tithi of Shukla Paksha and this is the month of Ashadha. Lord Murugan is worshipped on this propitious day. Devotees offer prayers to him and seek blessings of the Lord. This month, Skanda Sashti is being observed today i.e., on July 11, 2024.

Skanda Sashti 2024: Significance

Skanda Sashti holds a great religious significance in Hindu religion. This day is dedicated to worship Lord Murugan. This is a monthly observance which falls once in a month on sixth day or sashti tithi of Shukla Paksha. Lord Murugan is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. He is known as the warrior who lead all the deities and he mounts on peacock.

This day is mainly celebrated in South India - Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. and people honour Lord Murugan with immense devotion and dedication. They offer prayers to the Lord. It is believed that people who worship Lord Murugan, get relieved from all types of sufferings, evil spirits and black magic. Lord Kartikeya is also known as Lord Murugan and worshipping him brings success, good health, wealth and prosperity in life. Devotees also attain spiritual enlightenment. This fast is so pure and sacred tha people who observe this fast every month, they achieve success, remove obstacles from life and this also bring good fortune and people also get inner strength so that they can face life's challenges. Devotees also observe this fast to make a divine connection with the deity.

Skanda Sashti 2024: Puja Rituals

Devotees wake up early in the morning and take holy bath before starting puja rituals. They must clean their home first and make beautiful rangoli and do preparation for the puja. Take a wooden plank and place an idol of Lord Murugan. Prepare bhog prasad, take five seasonal fruits, bananas, coconut and put kalash filled with water. Light a diya with desi ghee and offer prayers to Lord Murugan. Visit Murugan Temple and offer fruits, milk, flowers, coconut, chant various mantras and seek blessings. Devotees can break their fast in the evening and eat sattvik food.
