Shattila Ekadashi 2026: Date, parana time, puja rituals and spiritual significance
Shattila Ekadashi is one of the most auspicious days in Hindu religion. This Ekadashi falls in the first month of the year 2026. People celebrate this day with immense devotion and purity and as we all know that Ekadashi's are dedicated to worship Lord Vishnu. Ekadashi falls twice in a month during Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha. This month, Shattila Ekadashi will be observed on Ekadashi Tithi or 11th day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Magha. Ekadashi in Magha Month is being observed today, on January 14, 2026.

Shattila Ekadashi is one of the sacred days in Hindu religion. This day falls on the 11th day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Magha. This is the first Ekadashi of the month in the year 2026, known as Shattila Ekadashi, which is dedicated to honor Lord Vishnu. This Ekadashi has a special connection with sesame seeds (til) and Lord Vishnu is offered white sesame seeds as a bhog prasad. It is believed that this Ekadashi fast brings wealth, prosperity, and removes all the past committed sins.
On this auspicious festival of Makar Sankranti, Shattila Ekadashi will also be observed, which makes Makar Sankranti more special and unique. This is a unique combination of Sankranti and Ekadashi after years. People can utilise this day to appease Lord Vishnu and Lord Surya and seek their blessings. One more thing which people need to think is on the day of Makar Sankranti, they should avoid eating Khichdi this time because Shattila Ekadashi is falling on the same day.

1. Wake up during brahma muhurta and take a bath using plain water. You should just mix sesame seeds in your water.
2. Take a vow (sankalp) to observe the fast with full devotion to Lord Vishnu.
3. Light a diya with sesame oil or ghee and offer yellow flowers, tulsi leaves, and fruits to Lord Vishnu.
4. Special bhog consisting of sesame seeds and jaggery (til-Gud) is offered to the deity.
5. Recite the Vishnu Sahasranama or the mantra Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya.
