Jayanti is celebrated on the new moon or no moon day of Jyeshtha month as per the Hindu calendar. It is believed that Lord Shani was born on Jyeshtha Amavasya, therefore, people worship Lord Shani on this day and seek blessings of Lord Shani.

Shani Jayanti will be celebrated on 3rd June 2019. The Amavasya Tithi began at 4:40 pm on 2nd June, and will end at 3:31 pm on 3rd June. The Shani Puja will be performed on June 3.

Shani Jayanti: Puja vidhi
One should get up early in the morning and worship the nine ruling planets. Worshipping Lord Shani’s statue with sesame or mustard oil is considered auspicious. One can also use sesame seeds, urad dal, black pepper, groundnut oil, clove, bay leaf and rock salt for worshipping Lord Shani. Chanting of Shani Mantra while offering oil to the statue should also be done. It is said that worshipping Lord Hanuman on this day is also considered felicitous.

There are few things which one should avoid doing on this day as it is considered inauspicious like saying no to someone who is thirsty or hungry, cutting nails or hair, and disrespecting women. Also, avoid looking into the eyes of Lord Shani while performing Shani Puja.
