Naraka Chaturdashi, also known as Roop Chaturdashi or Kali Chaturdashi, represents the second day of the Hindu festival Diwali. It falls on Chaturdashi of the Krishna Paksha in the Vikram Samvat Hindu calendar month of Ashvin. This year,

It's said that evil asur Narakasur, son of Mother Earth, forcefully ruled several kingdoms brought under is reign. His atrocities were growing with each passing day, leaving the weak to his mercy. Narakasur wanted to rule the heaven, thus he challenged Lord Indra for battle. The latter went straight to Lord Vishnu and asked for his help. And, he promised to help him after his incarnation as Lord Krishna.
Narakasur was blessed by Lord Brahma, due to which he could be killed by none, but a woman. So, when Lord Vishnu incarnated as Lord Krishna, he devised a plan to ensue Narakasur in a battle. Lord Krishna rode the mount Garuda as ‘saarthi’, while his wife Satyabhama attacked and killed Narakasur. This day is another reminder of good winning over the evil, like Dusshera.
Importance
It is believed that having an early morning bath followed by offerings at Lord Krishna or Lord Vishnu temple brings in immense good luck, prosperity and wards of any evil presence in life.
