Margashirsha Amavasya 2025: Date, Timings, Puja Rituals and Significance
Amavasya is the sacred day that is dedicated to worship ancestors and forefathers. Amavasya takes place every month and holds a great religious and spiritual significance among Hindus. This month, Margashirsha Amavasya will occur on the 15th day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Margashirsha. This day is also known as Mrigashira Amavasya which falls under the Mrigshira Nakshatra. This year, Magashirsha Amavasya is going to take place on November 19, 2025.

Amavasya is one of the most sacred day which is devoted to honor ancestors and the deceased members of the family. Amavasya occurs once a month and people who think they are suffering from Pitru Dosha in the family then they can perform Pitru Puja, Pitru Tarpan and other Pitru Dosha remedies on this specific day of the month. The Amavasya that falls i the month of Margashirsha known as Margashirsha Amavasya. This day falls under the Mrigashirsha Nakshatra that's why it is also known as Mrigashira Amavasya. On this specific day, devotees are advised to visit Ganga ghats and offer their prayers to Lord Surya to seek his blessings. This other names for Margashirsha month are Agahan and Magsar. In Hinduism, this day is considered extremely significant. The Hindu scriptures state that this month is primarily devoted to worshiping Lord Krishna. The Bhagavada Gita makes it quite clear that Lord Krishna saw himself as Mrigashira Month out of all the months.
1. Wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath in a sacred river.
2. Those who are unable to go to the sacred places to take holy bath in Ganga river or any other sacred river, they can add the Ganga jal in their bucket and take a holy bath at home.
2. The offer Arghya to Lord Surya and chant "Om Ghrani Suryaye Namah"
3. This is an auspicious day to perform Pitru Puja and Pitru Tarpan and even Pind Daan if they want to offer prayers to their ancestors.
4. On this day, you can invite the Brahmins at home and feed them with sattvik food, give them clothes and foot wears.
5. People should feed cows, dogs and crows on this holy day.
6. This day is considered as an auspicious day for making donations and doing charity.
