Kharmas 2023: Kharmas is also known as Malmas in Hindu religion. This month is not considered auspicious month for performing auspicious activities in life. Kharmas is the time when Lord Surya changes its position and travels from Scorpio to Sagittarius. Today, Sun is coming in Sagittarius zodiac sign on December 16, 2023 so this time period will start from today and end on January 15, 2024.

Kharmas 2023: Significance

Kharmas holds an importance in Hindu religion. Kharmas continues for one month as Sun stays in Sagittarius zodiac sign. When Sun changes its position from Scorpio tp Sagittarius then this day is also observed as Dhanu Sankranti. It is believed that performing any auspicious activity during this time period is considered inauspicious so people are advised not to get involved in performing any auspicious activity such as marriage, engagement, mundan, griha pravesh and starting new business venture etc.

One must perform religious spiritual activities during this whole month. People should take holy bath in holy rivers such as Ganga, Yamuna, Narmada and Shipra. Visiting holy places during this whole month is considered highly rewarding. Offering water to Lord Surya is also believed to be meritorious.

Kharmas 2023: Story

Once the horses of Lord Sun were tired and stopped at one place to have water and food but Lord Surya could not wait for them to ride his chariot so he saw few donkeys then he tied them with his chariot and moved ahead. So it is believed that during this one month, his chariot is pulled by donkeys.

One must wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath. People should make a habit of offering water to Lord Surya. They must light a diya infront of Lord Shiva and offer prayers to him. Reciting Aditya Hridya Stotram is also considered meritorious. During this period, one must recite holy books such as Ramayana, Bhagavad Gita and Sundarkan. Taking holy dip in Ganga river is also believed to be rewarding. One must donate food and clothes to the needy people.
