Indira Ekadashi 2024: Ekadashi holds its own religious and spiritual significance among Hindus. This day is purely dedicated to worship Lord Vishnu and devotees observe fast on this day to please the Lord and seek his blessings. Ekadashi falls twice a month and this time Indira Ekadashi is going to be celebrated during the month of Ashwina and one of the most special thing about this Ekadashi is that it is falling during Pitru Paksha.Indira Ekadashi Vrat will be observed on Ekadashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha in Ashwina Month i.e., on September 28, 2024.

Indira Ekadashi 2024: Significance
Indira Ekadashi holds an immense religious significance in Hindu religion. This Ekadashi is one of the most revered Ekadashi as it falls during Pitru Paksha when ancestors come down on earth from Pitru Loka for 16 days. It is believed that Ekadashi fast is considered the most sacred fast and people get rid of their past committed sins when they observe Ekadashi with all their heart. This fast liberates the devotees from birth and death cycle and people get salvation or Moksha. Lord Vishnu gives them a place in his abode which is Vaikuntha Dham. It is also believed that the one, who observe fast on this sacred day and dedicated the fast to their ancestors, Lord Vishnu bless their ancestors for all their sins and grant salvation to them also. It is considered most important day for the ancestors.
Indira Ekadashi 2024: Story
According to the legend, King Indrasen of Mahishmati Nagar was a great devotee and majestic king of Lord Vishnu in Satyuga. Everyone lived happily in his Mahishmati kingdom, the people there did not have any trouble. One day, when the king was discussing with his ministers sitting in the court, Devarshi Narada Muni appeared in his court.
Sage Narada informed the king that in your kingdom, all people are living a peaceful life, but your father is compelled to reside in Yamaloka due to his bad karmas. On hearing this, an anxious King Indrasen asked Devarshi Narada about his father’s soul well-being. The sage told him that he must observe fast on Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month to ward off his father’s sins.
King Indrasen then asked sage Narada how to keep Ekadashi vrat? Narada replied that just a day before Indira Ekadashi, take a bath in the river on the tenth day and perform Shradh for your ancestors. On Ekadashi, worship Lord Vishnu and then eat fruits in the evening. By observing this fast, your father would get virtuous benefits. King Indrasen along with his brothers observed a ritualistic fast of Indira Ekadashi. As a result, his father got salvation and after the death of King Indrasen, his soul departed for heaven.
Indira Ekadashi 2024: Puja Rituals
1. Get up early in the morning and take a holy bath before starting puja rituals.
2. Clean the house especially puja room.
3. Place an idol of Lord Vishnu, light a with desi ghee, offer garland, fruits, Tulsi Patra and home made sweets.
4. Prepare sattvik food and offer it to Brahmin, cows, crows, dogs and ants.
5. Recite Bhagavad Gita Path and some people organise Gayatri Path also.
6. It is prohibited to pluck Tulsi Patra on this day.
8. Break your fast next day on Dwadashi Tithi.
