The Teej falling on Shukla Paksha of Shravana is known as haryali teej. This year it falls on 3rd August 2019. It is also known as Teejan in some parts of the country.

As the name suggests, Haryali teej means tradition related to greenery. On this day many women wear green coloured clothes and green bangles. Some of them celebrate this festival by singing and dancing with full devotion and joy.

How this festival is celebrated
A day before Haryali Teej some women celebrate ‘Sindhare’. On this day newly wed women receive clothes and ornaments from their Mother-in-law. On Haryali Teej women gather and worship moon. Milk, curd and flowers are also being offered at the time of Puja.

This Festival is mainly related with greenery and its celebrations are meant for showing abundance of greenery and good harvest. As told earlier that women wear green colored clothes like lehenga, sarees and suits with matching bangles and mehandi patters. Both married and unmarried women enjoy this festival by swinging on adorned swings and singing songs. They also make some delicious food items.

also adopt this tradition with full craze and joy. In Gujarat, garba dance is specially arranged on this occasion. Womem wear traditional cloaths and dance by carrying pots on their heads for Goddess Parvati.

Maharashtrian women wear green clothes, green bangles, golden bindis and kajal for luck. They distribute beautifully painted coconuts to their female relatives and friends and offer fresh fruit and green vegetables to the goddess.

Celebrations in Vrindavan

The devotees of Lord Krishna celebrate the festival of Haryali Teej with great enthusiasm and Excitement. At the time of haryali teej swings are laid down in the shrines of vrindavan anddevotes enjoy by swinging on those swings. This ceremony is known as 'Jhullan Leela'. Songs and hymes are chanted in famous Banke buhari temple. Devotes even perform famous Radhaand Krishna leela. The main attraction of Hariyali Teej in Vrindavan is the gold-ornamented swing of Lord Krishna which comes only once a year. Various devotees come to vrindavan specially to attend Haryali teej.
