Guruvayur Ekadashi 2023: Ekadashi is considered an auspicious day when Lord Vishnu is worshipped with great reverence. Guruvayur Ekadashi is celebrated in Sri Krishna Temple at Guruvayur in Kerala. This Ekadashi in other regions is known as Prabodhini Ekadashi and Dev Uthani Ekadashi. As per Malayalam calendar, this Ekadashi is observed in the month of Vrischikam. This year Guruvayur Ekadashi fast is being observed today i.e., on November 23, 2023.

Guruvayur Ekadashi 2023: Significance

Guruvayur Ekadashi holds its own religious and spiritual significance and this day is purely dedicated to worship Lord Krishna in Shri Krishna Temple at Guruvayur, Kerala.

On this auspicious day of Guruvayur Ekadashi, a large elephant procession is carried out with number of elephants. As per belief, once there was an elephant Gajarajan Guruvayoor Kesavan who died on this auspicious Ekadashi. The leader of the elephants at Pannathur Kotta of Guruvayur Temple offer a garland on the statue of Guruvayur Kesavan and all other elephants satnd around the statue and pay obeisance. Elephant processions also visit Parthasarathy Temple as Lord Krishna rendered Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna on this auspicious day. This day is also celebrated as Geeta Jayanti, Geetopadesam day.

Guruvayur Ekadashi 2023: Puja Rituals

1. Devotees observe fast on 11th day and break their fast on 12th day which is Dwadashi Tithi.
2. It is prohibited to eat salt, rice and grains on this auspicious day of Ekadashi.
3. People visit Lord Krishna Temple and offer their prayers and seek blessings.

4. Offering Tulsi Patra is one of the most important ritual and in Kerala it is must to offer Chandan to lord Krishna.
5. Offer banana or white colour food (Pal Pyasam) to Lord Krishna
6. Devotees must chant Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaye 108 times.
7. Reciting Bhagavad Gita on this auspicious day is considered highly meritorious.
8. Devotees feed cows and provide help to them.
9. It is rewarding to plant Tulsi plants and watering them and lighting a diya near Tulsi plant.
